Diana Guzmán Barraza -born in Mexico, global citizen of 16 cities (5 in Mexico, 5 in Europe, 2 in South East Asia, 2 in South America, and 2 in United States) in 9 countries- is an Energy, Sustainability, & Climate Chage Consultant -with a Masters Degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from the UK (2014), a Bachelors Degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico (2007), and capacity-building certifications from: NASA, UNICEF, WHO, UN Habitat, and on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventories, at a national scale, from UNFCCC & Greenhouse Gas Research Institute of Korea. Some of the awards received include: Leadership Award from former President of Mexico Vicente Fox, Friendship Award from United Nations (UNFCCC), High-Achievement Award from Santander, and full academic excellence scholarships from the national & regional governments in Mexico, and academic institutions in UK & Mexico. Commemorations as International Ambassador have been honored by the City of Nottingham, City Climate Planner, and by international NGO Team 54 Africa.
10 years of professional experience include current energy & sustainability measuring, reporting, and verification projects (such as emissions inventory development) as well as on-site sustainable energy generation, water treatment, waste management, power purchasing agreements, sustainable design & construction, and energy efficiency infrastructure projects, for 649 buildings -spread out in the 800,000 hectares of existing infrastructure in 60 university campuses & 2 hospitals all over Mexico-, as well as international field engineering experience in the oil & gas industry (Schlumberger). Other consulting experience includes the review of Energy & Sustainability strategies for 15 hectares of local new development, and collaboration for the 1st Net Zero Energy Building in Latin America, both in San Pedro Garza García, one of the wealthiest cities in Latin America with billions of USD of investment in new construction.
Climate activism includes: roles in the United Nations (as a delegate, technical expert, civil society, and private sector), roles (as judge, mentor, key note, and speaker) in sustainability conference & hackathons, pro bono development of environmental indicators based on satellite observations for Africa, and written publications, (such as Climate Leadership article on Newsweek magazine, with distribution in all of Latin America, as well as other printed magazines), and collaboration with NGOs, such as: Climate Reality Project, Citizen Climate Lobby, and the Citizen Observatory of the Air Quality of Monterrey.
